The official standard
Tenancy Services says tenants must leave the property reasonably clean and tidy. What that requires depends on the property's condition and the facts of the tenancy. The separate standard guide explains how to use the entry report and photos.
When professional help can be useful
Consider the time available, the size and condition of the home, whether furniture remains, physical practicality and access. Hiring a cleaner can help with the agreed work, but it does not determine the bond result.
- Several rooms still need work
- The handover date is close
- Furniture or access limits what you can reach
- The work is difficult to complete safely

Check requests carefully
If a landlord or property manager asks for a specific service, check the request against the tenancy agreement and current official guidance. Keep messages, condition records, invoices and photos where they are relevant.
Carpet clauses
Carpet cleaning has its own rules. A blanket professional-cleaning clause may be unenforceable, while a written indoor-pet condition can create a specific exception. Check the agreement and the carpet guide before booking that work.
For tenancy responsibilities or disputes, check the facts of your case against current Tenancy Services guidance. View official maintenance guidance
